DineLA Week Summer Return

The widely-popular, twice-yearly program presented by the L.A. Tourism and Convention Board returns for its second summer plating in mid-July and features delicious, specially priced prix fixe menus for lunch and/or dinner. A wide variety of restaurants throughout Los Angeles are participating in dineLA Week and naturally some venues happen to serve the South Bay culinary landscape. With lunch menus ranging from $15 to $25 and dinner menus ranging from $30 to $50, you are sure to get great value at low risk. Put away the pots and pans this week, at least for a couple nights, during dineLA week which has already started and will cook through Sunday July 31.

Not all prixe fixe menus are the same and you shouldn’t always order form a set menu unless your’re in walking distance from an open bar at a wedding or schmoozing on company time. Japanese barbecue restaurant in Torrance, Gyu-Kaku, is fantastic and best fit for groups and families looking to grill their own cuts of meat, protein and vegetables washed down by cold beer or sake. This is already too much work for a prixe fixe experience and Gyu-Kaku has great early and late-night happy hour specials any given week making a visit during dineLA not so mandatory.

Steak and Whiskey in Hermosa Beach prepares a decadent 4-course dinner that costs $95 before tax and gratuity, but be sure and check out the dineLA Week menu before balking at the hefty price. Your main course comes with two sides, vegetable and/or starch and a complimentary glass of Cava or sparkling rose greets your first course. This might be the most economical opportunity to romance on the potential of a perfect steak dinner in Hermosa Beach.

Fleming’s Steakhouse in El Segundo offers a stellar 3-course steak dinner at $49 per person which is a touch cheaper than Steak & Whiskey but consider a steak alternative Prime Rib dinner at Fleming’s this summer. It comes with a dessert, a salad and starts out at $29.95 available on Sundays and now Mondays too.

No dinner menu at Sausal in El Segundo during dineLA week but they will be plating a $20 lunch menu. Spice up the work week with some mixed ceviche (fish, calamari, Habanero Salsa, citrus) and a smoked pork tamale. dineLA Lunch menu only available during the week form 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Creator of MB Post and Manhattan Beach’s debonair steakhouse The Arthur J, Chef David LeFevre’s manic homage to the sea, Fishing with Dynamite brings a $25 3-course lunch menu to the dineLA table and this is good news. It’s not easy to get a dinner reservation at FWD on any given night because of the small space (max is about 36 diners) and the creative, ever-changing hand-picked menu that boast an outstanding cocktail selection and raw oyster bar is always in demand. Even though its lunch, call ahead to FWD to make a reservation during dineLA week.

Family run Bettolino Kitchen in Redondo Beach will cook up prix fixe lunch & dinner menus showcasing their focus on freshly made Italian meals like Saltimbocca: seared scaloppine, prosciutto di Parma, fresh sage, sautéed green beans, roasted potatoes with a white wine sauce. Also in Redondo Beach, BALEENkitchen cooks up gourmet style specially priced lunch & dinner menus; dinner for $44 during dineLA week (includes wine pairing) features main courses like Hangar Steak, Grilled Pork Chop and Miso Glazed Salmon.
